Hoshyar provides grants, loans, and other distributions to
further the work of educating females. The distributions
are made to organizations or to individuals, depending on
the nature of the targeted project. In cases where Hoshyar lacks sufficient resources to fund a project, it works in liaison with local partners in grant-writing and grant submissions to larger international donors.
Current
Activities
I. al-Hamd Educational Girls High School, Baagarian.

- Hoshyar and al-Hamd have been partners since April 2007. In June 2009 we inaugurated a newly-constructed 8-room schoolhouse and recently completed the first year in this facility.
- With ever-increasing enrollments, there are now 11 teachers, 215 students, and a second daily session has been added for working girls and women every afternoon.
- During the past year, our graduates have been taking F.A. (post-matriculation) courses.
- Teachers receive training through pedagogical workshops during intersession, and seven of eleven al-Hamd teachers are currently pursuing higher degrees and / or certifications.
- Every year at Eid, students continue to receive new uniforms and shoes.
II. Ongoing partnership with the Friends Welfare Association, based in Mansehra, KPK, Pakistan.

- Friends Welfare Association is a local grassroots NGO that began in Mansehra, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake of 2005. This partnership involves the sponsorship of Girls' Middle Schools in the remote villages of Mansehra District and Pakistan's Northern Areas:
- Community Managed Girls' Secondary School, Jabar Gali. [MAP].
- Government Girls Middle School, Kotri Sathangali.
- Since April 2009 direct aid from Hoshyar has paid utilities on the school building, helped purchase furniture, textbooks, and other school supplies for GGMS Kotri Sathangali, as well as contributed to teachers' salaries and provided daily support for the staff to and from Battal, a town some 15km away.
- We have also supported teacher training workshops, capacity building workshops, and bi-monthly monitoring and evaluation by Friends Welfare Association staff.
- Friends Pakistan oversaw the election and constitution of a Parent-Teacher Council for the GGMS and outlined its activities and responsibilities.
- This support will continue until the Government Education Office can take over full support of the school.
- Government Girls Secondary School, Manda Gucha.
- In July 2010 we entered into a partnership with the Government Girls' Middle School in Manda Gucha. Through our partners, Friends Welfare Association, this middle school has been expanded into a girls high school -- the first high school ever in the village of Manda Gucha.
- Government Girls High School, Paras.
- In July 2011 enters into a three-way collaboration with Friends Welfare Association, Pakistan and the Government Education Office to expand the existing Government School in Paras to include high school classes for girls.
III. In partnership with the Kawish Resource Center, Lahore.

- Three adult literacy centers for working girls and women were inaugurated in the following depressed urban and suburban localities of Lahore, serving some 65 students, with a capacity for 150 total participants.
- Bhatti Gate in the Walled City.
- These centers are provided by neighborhood residents. Hoshyar supplies textbooks, writing materials and furniture; and pays rent and utilities on each of the three centers.
- Hoshyar also underwrites literacy training for each of the teachers and pays their salaries.
- With a startup grant from Caridad Partners Giving Circle in San Francisco, the neighborhood adult literacy centers in Bhaati Gate and Nishat Colony will open on February 1st. These centers will open as combined literacy and vocational training centers where 75 participants will learn machine-sewing, embroidery, in addition to literacy and numeracy skills.
IV. Community Management Girls Middle School, Jabar Gali

- This is a large but remote village about 55km Northeast of Mansehra Township in the Siran Valley.
- Plan Pakistan established this school along with other Community Management Schools in July 2007, but withdrew in September 2008 due to security threats in the region. However, the community wished to keep the school going. Since July 2009, direct aid from Hoshyar has helped Friends Pakistan to purchase desks, schoolbooks and other supplies as well as to pay teacher salaries.
- The schools is now expanded to include 9th grade and has thus become a high school as well. The school is expected to add 10th grade in 2011. There are 70 girls in this school.
V. Other Organizations.
- In addition to the aforementioned, Hoshyar has distributed funds to Women
for a Better World, based in California. It, in turn, channels
the donations to a non-governmental organization in Kabul, Afghanistan,
called Peace Circle of All Afghan Women's Union.
VI. Manda Gucha based in Siran Valley, Pakistan.

- First girls' high school in partnership with the Friends Welfare Association (FWA).
- The school has been in session since June 2010.
- It currently has 22 girls in 9th and 10th grades.
All of the Hoshyar Foundation's partner schools emphasize enrollment of girls, who make up the overwhelming majority of students, and whose superior achievement is on record with their respective administrations. In this regard, Hoshyar looks forward to further cooperation with these groups in the future.
